Fort Leonard Wood Lead Instructor


LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through education, apprenticeships and job placement in technology. We're seeking a hyper-motivated Lead Instructor to deliver our inaugural LC101 class on base at Fort Leonard Wood.

LaunchCode's LC101

LC101 is a unique class that seeks to provide training for in-demand tech skills that prepare successful students for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology. LC 101 accomplishes this by using world-class curriculum and expertise from the local community, with additional skill tracks that orient students towards a job in technology.

The Lead Instructor Role

LaunchCode is seeking a highly motivated person who will serve as the Lead Instructor for this project. The Lead Instructor will be responsible for helping shape course curriculum, instructing students, coordinating instruction with Teaching Assistants, and assisting students through the coursework.

This is a contracted, part-time, paid position. The class will run for 18 weeks, beginning April 9, 2018 and running through August 9th. Class will meet two nights a week (nights TBD) from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and the instructor can expect to work approximately 18 hours/week on this project.


  • Instruct students during class sessions. This may include: lecturing, one-on-one student mentoring, and developing supplementary material.
  • Adapt instruction methods and material in response to student needs.
  • Coordinate with mentors on hours, course material, and responsibilities.
  • Work with students to determine best practices and individual learning methods.
  • Communicate with LaunchCode to provide updates and address any needs.

You're perfect for this role if you --  

  • Have a high level of computer programming skill, including proficiency with Python, Java and/or C#, Web Development (especially HTML, CSS, and Javascript), and SQL databases.
  • Love building and deploying software applications from scratch.
  • Are an excellent communicator and public speaker.
  • Plus possess excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Pride yourself on being an effective team member in high-intensity environments and being able to thrive under pressure.
  • Have some teaching experience --  but not mandatory.


Commensurate with experience and skills.  As a contractor, no benefits are provided.
