Fort Leonard Wood Teaching Fellow


LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through education, apprenticeships and job placement in technology. We're partnering with the Truman Education Center at Fort Leonard Wood to deliver our LC101 class, and are seeking hyper-motivated Teaching Fellows to assist.

LaunchCode's LC101

LC101 is a unique class that helps students develop the coding skills that will prepare them for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology. LC101 combines world-class online curriculum with dynamic in-person instruction and specialized skill tracks tailored to align with employer demand.

Teaching Fellow Responsibilities

LaunchCode is seeking highly motivated individuals to serve as contracted Teaching Fellows (TFs) for LC101. TFs assist with instruction, lead an "Advisory Group" of students, and assist students through the coursework. TFs are required to become familiar with the class material and assignments before the class begins.

Teaching Fellows are contracted part-time, from April 9 - August 9, 2018. Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for 3 hours, and TFs can expect to contract for a total of 9-15 hours/week. The class will be held at on base at Ft. Leonard Wood.


  • Proficiency with Python, basic HTML, CSS, SQL databases, and preferably C#/.NET, or Javascript.
  • Experience building and deploying software applications from scratch.
  • Excellent communicator and public speaker.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Effective team member in high-intensity environments and able to thrive under pressure.
  • Recommended experience working with students, but not necessary.

  • Can program in a variety of languages, including object-oriented; dynamically- and statically-typed; compiled and interpreted
  • Have experience presenting programming concepts in both verbal and written settings
  • Stay up-to-date on current programming trends and practices
  • Possess a strong desire to work with driven individuals and help them succeed
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Can demonstrate an outcome-oriented work ethic

Contract Rate:

Teaching Fellows will be paid $12.50/hr, and as contractors are not eligible for employee benefits.
