D.C. Lead Instructor

LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through education, apprenticeships and job placement in technology.  We're seeking a hyper-motivated Lead Instructor to lead our LC101 class in the D.C. Metropolitan area.

Are you passionate about sharing your coding skills with others?  Have programming chops and communication skills? Does the thought of preparing people for employment sing to your soul?  Then you, my friend, should contract with us.

LaunchCode's LC101

LC101 is a unique class that helps students develop the coding skills that will prepare them for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology.  LC101 combines world-class online curriculum with dynamic in-person instruction and specialized skill tracks tailored to align with employer demand.

Lead Instructor Responsibilities

As Lead Instructor, your responsibility is to broadly ensure the overall success of the class alongside your team of Teaching Assistants (TAs).  You will plan and deliver lectures, provide directions and oversight to TAs, and have final say on what happens during each class session. You will also be the primary liaison with LaunchCode staff, communicating feedback and any changes you plan to make.

  • Ability to empathize and work with learners from a wide variety of backgrounds and skill levels
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in topics covered (e.g. a Java instructor should at least be comfortable with a statically-typed OO language)
  • Willingness to learn in-depth the topics they are less familiar with
  • General alignment with LaunchCode's educational philosophy
  • Ability to lead and coach Teaching Assistants

The job is fast-paced and multi-faceted. It's also super fun. A pretty sweet deal, if you ask us.

You're perfect for this role if you

  • Have substantial work experience as a developer and/or experience teaching at the college level
  • Have experience teaching (formal or informal; e.g. hands-on mentoring of a junior developer might fall into this category)
  • Have experience managing a team
  • Possess a passion for technology/programming/problem solving
  • Are engaged in the local tech scene

Position Type

Part Time - Contract

The instructor can expect to work approximately 10 - 12 hours per week.

Salary is commensurate with experience and skills.  As a contractor, no benefits are provided.

To Apply

Apply online by filling out the form above.   No phone calls, please; we're busy kicking butt and taking names (and tech jobs).  Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. We highly recommend applying as early as possible for the best chance of moving forward.

We Heart Diversity

LaunchCode supports and fosters leadership from underrepresented communities.  We strongly encourage folks from immigrant communities and communities of color, as well as those who identify as women, LGBTQ, or under-resourced to apply.  LaunchCode is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. Program and employment policies of LaunchCode are nondiscriminatory in regard to race, color, gender, religion, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
