Web Development Teaching Fellow - Kansas City 


LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through education, apprenticeships and job placement in technology. We're seeking hyper-motivated Teaching Fellows to assist with the delivery of our LC101 class in Kansas City, MO.

LaunchCode's LC101

LC101 is a unique class that helps students develop the coding skills that will prepare them for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology. LC101 combines world-class online curriculum with dynamic in-person instruction and specialized skill tracks tailored to align with employer demand.

Teaching Fellow Responsibilities

LaunchCode is seeking highly motivated individuals to serve as contracted Teaching Fellows (TFs) for LC101. TFs assist with instruction, lead an "Advisory Group" of students, and assist students through the coursework. TFs are required to become familiar with the class material and assignments before the class begins.  This role reports to the course Instructor.


  • Knowledge of technical concepts including fundamentals of coding, web development, JavaScript, AngularJS, HTML, CSS, SQL, OOP, Java, or C#. You do not need to have all these skills but you do have to have a willingness to learn!
  • Passion for programming
  • Strong communication skills - Leading small groups, and one on one instruction.
  • Perception/Patience (knowing when a student needs help)
  • Growth Mindset

  • Armed with a solid understanding of technical concepts (LC101 graduate, CS student or graduate, professional programmer, programming enthusiast engaged in the local tech scene).

Position Type

Part Time - Contract 

This is a contracted, part-time, paid position. The class will run for 22 weeks, beginning Monday, October 7, 2019, and running through Monday, March 16. The class will meet Mondays & Wednesdays  from 6:00-9pm at Rockhurst University. 

Teaching Fellows will be paid $12.50/hr  and will work 6-8 hours a week. As contractors TFs are not eligible for employee benefits.

Teaching Fellows will also have the possibility to extend the contract for an additional 9-weeks from Monday, April 6 to Monday, June 8, for LaunchCode's professional development oriented Liftoff program.
