LaunchCode's Immersive CodeCamp

Saint Louis Lead Instructor

LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through apprenticeships and job placement in technology. We're seeking a hyper-motivated manager to lead NASA-safety-check-level-crucial elements of our Impact program and help us expand tech greatness in the St Louis area. Are you a person who's always listening for connections? Got an earnest drive to open doors to opportunity for others and make an impact on their lives? Do people you meet on the bus or waiting in line often find themselves telling you their life story, and before you know it, you've discovered that your friend's aunt is exactly the person they need to meet to solve a problem? If so, then you've come to the right place.

The course curriculum is managed by LaunchCode and delivered by the Lead Instructor. The curriculum consists of coding and web fundamentals in Python, with additional job-ready skills taught in Java.

LaunchCode is seeking a highly motivated person who will serve as the Lead Instructor for this project with a class size of 25-35 students. The Lead Instructor will be responsible for executing curriculum, instructing students, and assisting students through the coursework.

  • Execution of all aspects of the course related to student learning, including lectures, review sessions, and coding practices.
  • All course administration related to classroom activities, including grading, attendance, student evaluation, and student communications.
  • Assist LaunchCode staff in organizing supplementary content, such as guest lectures, career workshops and student activities.
  • Support each individual student, including identifying their performance problems and working with them to create pathways for improvement.
  • Work with LaunchCode staff to manage student enrollment and learning status, and regularly report course and student progress.

  • Experience teaching programming and related technical topics at the college level or equivalent
  • Familiarity with software and/or web development in a professional setting
  • A solid knowledge on current programming trends and best practices
  • Involvement in building and deploying software applications from scratch
  • A desire to work with driven individuals and help them succeed
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong, outcome-oriented work ethic
  • Empathy for learners who are working hard to learn new skills
  • An ability to thrive as an effective team member in high-intensity environments
