Vice President of Government Services

We're looking for a self-motivated Vice President of Government Services to help us expand tech greatness in the Washington DC metro or Saint Louis area. This role reports to the SVP of Company Relations. This will be a salaried position, with a base salary of $80K - 84K. The base plus estimated commission are projected at $120,000-140,000 per year.

We're seeking an experienced leader to create and expand vital relationships with government and government-adjacent employer partners across the United States.

The Vice President of Government Services leads LaunchCode's efforts to identify and close spectacular opportunities for growing our impact within federal agencies, federal contractors and the burgeoning geospatial intelligence industry. The Vice President's work includes hunting new leads, cultivating new LaunchCode advocates among their existing network, pitching LaunchCode's success and mission to people who have never heard of us, maintaining fruitful relationships with current partner organizations, and envisioning new ways in which LaunchCode's innovative model can build the tech workforce of the future for federal agency and contractors. The job is fast-paced and multi-faceted. It's also super fun - a pretty sweet deal, if you ask us.

This is a full time, permanent position. Presently, all LaunchCode employees work remotely. For this role, there is a primary preference for candidates located geographically in the national capital region and a secondary preference for candidates in the St. Louis region.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain and develop LaunchCode's existing partnership with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
    • Provide oversight for continuation and diversification of LaunchCode's history of providing specific technical training to incumbent employees of NGA.
    • Identify opportunities for expanded placement of LaunchCode graduates into new employee roles at NGA.
    • Serve as chief point of contact for LaunchCode's efforts to maximize its reach and impact through nonclassified NGA opportunities at Moonshot Labs and the future N2W.
  • Grow LaunchCode's presence in workforce and talent development for the federal contractors, with a particular focus on the defense and intelligence space.
    • Build on the success of LaunchCode's model for identifying, recruiting, training and placing individuals with specific security clearance credentials into technical roles with high-profile global employers.
    • Facilitate greater hiring volume with existing federal contractor employers who have already realized the value of LaunchCode's model and bring new contractor employers into partnership with LaunchCode.
  • Serve as LaunchCode's liaison to the St. Louis region's geospatial community and its efforts to develop the geospatial economy.
    • Lead LaunchCode's presence on the GeoFutures Committee and other civic mechanisms for geospatial growth.
    • Understand the landscape for purposes of identifying and pursuing high-value partnerships with other civic, training, or nonprofit institutions that could lead to greater reach and impact for LaunchCode.
  • Position LaunchCode as an excellent source of tech talent and technical upskilling for federal agencies with which LaunchCode has not previously engaged.
    • Strategic identification of agencies with pending or future needs for technologists with skills and attributes that are a close match for LaunchCode's strengths.
    • Refine LaunchCode's messaging assets and marketing tools to enhance and better convey our value proposition for the federal workforce.
    • Build organizational capacity in the technical and administrative aspects of procurement and contracting.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional client-facing and people-oriented skills.
    • High levels of empathy and emotional intelligence.
    • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across several projects.
  • A track record of success in the federal service or within a contractor or consultancy with roots in federal agency work.
    • A strong candidate will demonstrate the ability to work closely in the federal agency and contracting realm. The ideal candidate will come with credibility already fully established.
    • Seeking a well-networked candidate who knows the decision-makers who can make partnerships happen, or knows how to get to them.
  • Effective and polished communication skills.
    • Strong oral, written, and visual presentation skills.
    • Experience crafting detailed proposals and statements of work.
    • Comfort in negotiating and developing pricing strategy.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify new opportunities.
    • Comfort in researching the market and competitive landscape to identify new, high-potential customers and positioning improvements to win them over.
    • Ability to make and articulate allocation decisions for investment of time and resources based on rational estimates of reward and risk.
  • High-level conceptual (though not necessarily technical) understanding of the technologies in which LaunchCode trains and the manner in which those technologies are deployed in the industry.
  • Willingness to travel (in non-pandemic moments) 10 to 20% of the time.

  • Competitive salary - This will be a salaried position, with a base salary of $80K - 84K. The base plus estimated commission are projected at $120,000 to $140,000 per year.
